Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli made a shocking revelation on Sunday when he said some of Kenya's senior politicians responsible for the late multiparty icon Kenneth Matiba's troubles were the ones who arrived first for his requiem mass.
Atwoli said it is so shocking that the same leaders sent very emotional condolence messages to the family of the late former Transport Minister.
Matiba was cremated on Friday following his death that resulted from a stroke which he suffered when he was at Kamiti Maximum Prison after his arrest in Nairobi as he agitated for the reintroduction of multiparty politics during the totalitarian KANU N regime.
"Those people who we were with in KANU fighting Matiba are the ones who were at the funeral service. This Kenya. I think God should return fast," he said as he addresses a congregation at the ACK St Stephen's Cathedral along Jogoo Road.
"They are the ones who formed Youth for KANU 92 to fight Matiba. When Matiba died, they went to Muranga and everywhere deceiving Matiba's family."
Atwoli said although he supported then-President Daniel Arap Moi, he never took issue with Matiba as he knew Matiba's being in the opposition never made him his enemy.
