COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has told NASA leader Raila Odinga to drop his swearing-in plans.
He said the expected oath-taking ceremony has sparked worrying levels of anxiety in the country even as citizens try to go back to normal life after the general election.
Atwoli asked Raila to instead seek dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta with the aim of ending the country's political stalemate.
"COTU statistics indicate that over 100,000 jobs have been lost in the past four months of prolonged politics. The situation seems to be escalating with the hard stances on dialogue," Atwoli said as quoted by the Star.
In a January 5 letter addressed to the president and Raila, the COTU boss expressed concern at the unending political battles in the country.
He said that the talks should not be anchored on anyone ceding his current office and that they should not come with any pre-conditions.
He added that his union is ready to facilitate any engagements of dialogue between the two.
"The union holds both of you in such high esteem, we have no doubt that your physical meeting alone will go along way in making you greater and impact positively to Kenya's social-economic and political spheres."
