The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general Francis Atwoli has taken to court former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo over what he termed failure to pay an alleged Sh110 million debt.

The Cotu boss claims that Jirongo has failed to pay him, and now wants the court to compel the former MP to pay up, NairobiNews has reported.

Atwoli told the court that Jirongo had in October last year made an undertaking that he would pay the money but has defaulted.

The former legislator has been given two weeks to get a lawyer to represent him in court.

In June last year, Nairobi businessman Bryan Yongo asked the High Court to declare Jirongo bankrupt for failing to repay a Sh25 million loan he extended to the politician in 2014.

Yongo added that he had been unsuccessful in tracing assets registered in Jirongo’s name.
