Kenyan workers will demand a higher pay if the governor does not intervene on the increase of fuel prices.
This is according to Central Organisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli who has warned that they will demand a pay rise or call for a strike.
The union is decrying over what it termed as ‘persistent increases in oil and fuel products costs’.
According to Atwoli, who sent a statement to media houses, Kenyans will need to pay more as a result of the increase.
“Failure by the government to shield consumers from these increases, then let it prepare for direct confrontation from workers in demand for pay increases from the entire labor fraternity and all sectors of the economy,” read part of the statement.
The Energy Regulatory Commission on Sunday once again hiked the prices of the precious commodity by Sh2, which is an upward trajectory trend in the last couple of months.
In the past 6 months, Super Petrol has gone up Sh11.23 per liter, with diesesl going up Sh10.36 in the same period.
Kerosene, which is mainly used by low-income consumers has gone up by Sh12.22 over the same period of time.
“Matatu will immediately take advantage and increase fares day and night, passing on the extra cost to consumers,” added the statement.
