The Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has warned Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua following the suspension of 437 county workers.
Mutua had said that he suspended the workers as part of the reorganization program as he seeks to improve service delivery in the county during his second term in office.
“I have directed all financial officers to proceed on immediate leave from this minute until further notice.
“This move will allow a through audit and suitability assessment of staff and financial systems and operations of the county,” Dr Mutua said, as quoted by the Standard.
In a statement released to the newsrooms, Atwoli said the governor’s actions are unlawful, unacceptable and unfortunate.
It is absurd that most of the already sworn in governors have assumed totally new roles that include threats of sacking, intimidating as well as avenging to their perceived opponents and workers,” he said as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.
He added: “These developments are setting a dangerous precedence in this country where professionals and employees are hired to serve in various counties are now forced to work at the pleasure of an individual with no security of employment nor respect of the law.”
