In an interview with the Standard, Atwoli asked Kenyans and politicians to refrain from unnecessary inflammatory remarks that could plunge the country into chaos.
Atwoli said that some statement being made by some politicians in regards to the provisional presidential results are harmful.
“I am urging politicians and Kenyans to exercise calm and preach peace as e wait for official presidential results from the IEBC,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
Atwoli also urged workers to report to work saying that there is nothing to fear for.
He appealed to security agencies to ensure security is enhanced across the country as results for various seats in Tuesday’s general election are being provisional released.
Poll results for Tuesday general election continue to stream in with President Uhuru Kenyatta leading the presidential race with over one million votes.
President Uhuru’s close challenger Raila Odinga of NASA has rejected the provisional results terming them a sham and factious.
Raila claims that intruders hacked into IEBC systems and tampered with the results.
The IEBC has reacted Raila’s claims, saying that an audit investigation to establish whether the system was tampered with is ongoing.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati urged Kenyans to remain calm assuring them that the commission will announce the presidential results as provided for by the law.
