Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has faulted the continued detainment of self proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) general and lawyer Miguna Miguna.
According to Aukot, Miguna has rights as captured in Article 24 of the Constitution and the State has no reason for the continued detainment as the Court has already ordered for his release.
On his Twitter handle on Monday, Aukot further pointed out that Miguna has dully paid for his bail thereby giving more reason for his release.
"@MigunaMiguna has rights. Unless those rights are limited under Art.24 of our Constitution, they must be respected. Besides, High Court ordered for his release and he paid for his bail. There isn't any more reason to hold him," tweeted Aukot.
Aukot, who contested for the presidency both in August and October 2017, has also urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to respect the Court the same way he (Aukot) and others respected the Supreme Court's ruling on the second presidential petition.
"My advise to @UKenyatta: last year, we respected the court order that declared you duly elected. We now ask you to respect the court order to release @MigunaMiguna and to lift the #MediaShutDownKE. You also swore to uphold our Constitution," read Aukot's earlier tweet.
Miguna has continued to be in police custody despite a Court order calling for his release.
The police also failed to present the lawyer at the Milimani Law Court on Monday at 2pm as ordered further raising eyebrows as to the whereabouts of the vocal political commentator.
