Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has reacted to the flooding of certain roads and estates in Nairobi.
In a tweet on Thursday, Aukot remarked that new rivers and small dams are emerging due to heavy rains in Nairobi.
According to Aukot however, the water can harvested and used in food irrigation thereby curbing food insecurity in the country.
"New "rivers" and small "dams" are emerging everywhere in Nairobi due to heavy rains. How I wish we could harvest every drop of this water and to put into better use like food irrigation. We could end #FoodInSecurity in our country #NationalConversation," tweeted Aukot.
This comes after the meteorological department warned of heavy flooding in the capital starting March 12 to March 16.
The Met services Director Peter Ambenje further warned residents in different parts of Nairobi to be on the lookout of flash floods leading to impassable roads, flooded roundabouts, stranded commuters and long traffic jams.
"The rain is likely to cause flash floods in the following areas which are known to be the main flooding zones; South C Shopping Centre, Mathare, Huruma, Kibera, and Mukuru slums, Globe and Mbagathi-Langata roundabouts, Kileleshwa Ring Road interchange and Loresho, Muthangari, Lavington, Nairobi West, Ruai and Utawala estates,” reiterated Ambenje as quoted by The Standard.
