Australia enjoys warm relations with East African countries through our shared membership of the Commonwealth, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the Indian Ocean Rim Association.
We collaborate closely with Kenya on education, agriculture and counter-terrorism. Our commercial relationship is strong with Australian companies investing in Kenya’s mineral, oil and gas sectors.
Ms Chartres is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and was most recently Assistant Secretary, Development Policy and Education Branch.
She has served overseas as Counsellor, Australian Mission to the United Nations, New York; Deputy Development Coordinator, Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI); Adviser, Solomon Islands Peace Monitoring Council; and as Second Secretary, Australian High Commission, Port Moresby.
