Kenyan-born Australian Senator Lucy Gichuhi[photo/edaily.co.ke]Kenyan-born Australian Senator Lucy Gichuhi has asked for prompt electoral improvements to evade upcoming election differences. She was speaking in a public speech at the University of Nairobi yesterday.
“Comparing the Kenyan election with the Australian one is like comparing an essay written by a Class Four pupil with one that has been written by a professor,” she said, adding that the country has, however, made strides in strengthening democracy. Gachuhi said with the 2017 election cycle over, the focus should shift to reforms.
She also called for the separation of powers between the three arms of government. “Once we have a clear separation of powers between the Judiciary, Executive and Legislature, everything else will fall into place,” she said.
Gichuhi recently urged Kenyans to accept and support their leaders to spur development in the country.
The senator made the remarks at a time when National Super Alliance (Nasa) maintains that it will not recognize President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government. Nasa has vowed to swear in its leader Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’ as they push for electoral justice in the country.
