Students who are enrolled in mid-level colleges in Mombasa County are panic mode after the Technical and Vocation Education Training Authority (TVETA) announced that most of the institutions are not registered.
According to the Standard, TVETA’s director general Dr Kipkurui Langat said the colleges have been offering internal diplomas which not recognised by the authority.
He said the authority will beginning next month launch a nationwide crackdown on the colleges.
“No institution should offer any education and training services without prior inspection and registration. The public has been advised to visit TVETA website to see the accredited colleges,” said Langat as quoted by the Standard.
According to records, there are 109 private colleges in Mombasa and only 12 of them have complied with TVETA’s regulations and are licensed to teach courses leading to the award of certificates.
The authority says none of the private colleges are accredited to award internal diplomas.
