An autopsy has revealed that the form four candidate who died mysteriously after doing some of his examination papers suffered cardiac arrest.
The report added that the student at Otieno Oyoo High School in Kisumu County had no external injuries.
A postmortem report released by a pathologist at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga teaching and referral hospital indicates that the late Austin Ouma died as a result of cardiac arrest and not beatings from fellow students.
The report was signed by Dr S. Sava, a pathologist at the institution. The autopsy was also witnessed by Otieno Oyoo High school principal Evans Ndago and the deceased’s father.
Ndago said that on the material day, the late Ouma had just sat for his physics paper and was having evening preps with other candidates when he suddenly developed chest pains. The principal said he was immediately rushed to Rabuor hospital where preliminary reports indicated that he was beaten.
The principal said it was gratifying that the autopsy has now revealed what caused the death of the student. He said the incident was unfortunate even though it was misreported by a section of the media.
The school’s parents and teachers association chairman Paul Otieno condemned a section of the media for giving false reports following the incident.
Otieno said the deceased was never beaten at all by anybody prior to his sudden demise. He appealed to the media to be balanced in it reporting noting that alarming reports can cause fear and despondency among students, parents and the general community in Rabuor where the school is located.
