Isiolo Governor Mohamed Kuti has urged residents to keep off areas prone to floods after hundreds of residents in Merti sub county were displaced after Ewaso Ng'iro River burst its banks.
The floods which started on Saturday have also affected animals and tourist camp sites.
Governor Kuti said the residents are now in fear that the situation will worsen if the floods continues.
On Monday the governor held a meeting with other county leaders on how to avert floods crisis.He called on the national government and other stakeholders to intervene and help his administration tackle the crisis to save lives.
"Residents have been suffering from prolonged drought. Now the rains have come with floods and this is posing a threat to the lives of our people. Residents still needs support such as food and other materials before they fully recover from the losses caused by drought", said Kuti.
He urged residents to be cautions during the rainy seasons and avoid areas prone to floods.
