Residents of Kibera using the Southern bypass road have been urged to avoid crossing the road due to the over-speeding vehicles on the road.
Josephat Keya, a community policing officer at Lang'ata has advised locals to use alternative routes to avoid being killed by high speeding vehicles.
He said that many locals crossing the road late at night have been hit by vehicles and killed on the spot as drivers run away.
"If locals want to spare their lives, they should avoid crossing the road that is ever busy. Driving moving on the road moves at high speeds something that has killed many who tries to cross," he said.
"The bumps on the roads have not helped to curb over-speeding menace by our drivers. The drivers never care about pedestrians who cross the road. Therefore, locals crossing the road are risking their lives and should avoid the road especially during late hours at night," he stated.
He argued that despite the campaigns on road safety by NTSA and other stakeholders, the urgency is still needed to ensure that drivers using roads drive at a recommended speed to avoid the several accidents caused as a result of over-speeding.
