Politicians have been warned against hate speech and incitement as the nation approaches the General elections.
According to the vice chair of National Cohesion and Integration Commission Irene Wanyoike, they want to train police officers across the country and provide them with recording gadgets which they will use to record sentiments made by politicians during their campaigns.
Wanyoike added that as the commissioner want 2017 general election to be so peaceful unlike 2007 when Kenya experienced violence through the election.
“ As the commission, we want to urge politicians to stop using hate speech during their campaigns let them pursue their supports in a peaceful way without using abusive language, Kenya is big than an individual,” said Wanyoike.
“We are going to give out recording gadgets to our police officers so that they can record sentiments which will be used as evidence,” she added.
She further cautioned any politicians who want to take the country back to 2007 where people lost their lives while others were displaced.
They were speaking in Kisii county on Friday with 60 police officers benefiting from the training.
