Polygamy Kenya President Raphael Magero has cautioned love makers not to 'milk' partners during Valentines Day to be celebrated Wednesday.
Addressing the press in Busia on Tuesday, Magero advised families to be responsible and give realistic budgets on Valentine Day and celebrate the day responsibly owing to economic hardships facing the country.
"Valentines Day means giving a simple gift to those people we love like rose flowers worth Sh50. People should be responsible for celebrating Valentine Day by not 'squeezing money from pockets of men and women," he said.
Polygamy Kenya is an organization founded under the Constitution of Kenya after the passage of the Family Bill in 2014. The lobby group promotes polygamy.
Magero condemned violence in marriages and advised people to come out and talk about issues that affect them.
"Our organisation is giving civic education and counseling to people. We are soliciting for funds to enable us to reach out to more people out there," he said.
He called on the national and county governments and other charity organisations to fund the lobby so as to enable it to carry out its core mandate.
Magero said plans are being rolled out to reach out to all the 47 counties and educating Kenyans about polygamy, domestic violence and defilement.
"I support the sentiments by Chief Justice David Maraga that youth aged between 20-22 years are languishing in prisons for life over defilement instead of being out there. I also call upon Kenyans not to shy away from polygamous marriages as long as you are responsible to your family and kids," he said.
He advised polygamous families to join hands with Polygamy Kenya and work together for the growth of the family and the nation in general.
"You can marry as many wives as you want as long as you are responsible enough to take care and provide for them," said Magero.
The organization started its activities officially in 2015. It has branches in 24 counties and a membership of about two million people.
Polygamy Kenya's main objective is to advise, protect and counsel families either polygamous or monogamous.
