Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has asked politicians in the county to keep politics out of development and allow the county government to deliver on its promises to the people.

Speaking to journalists at Sirkwa hotel in Eldoret town after officially opening the Disaster Preparedness Conference on Thursday, Chemno said that politics cannot be mixed with development.

Chemno indicated that some politicians were opposing development projects at the expense of residents to achieve political mileage.

“It is not reasonable for politicians to oppose development projects basing on their personal interests, the interests of the public should come first,” he said.

The deputy governor intimated that the county would realise full development if politicians and other elected leaders keep politics away and instead share their development ideas with the government.

He says the county government is open to criticism and that politicians should use channel their concerns without necessarily antagonising residents against the government.

The Deputy Governor said that elected leaders and politicians must put aside their differences and support development.

"We have initiated various development projects across the county that need good political goodwill to succeed," he added.

At the same time, Chemno dismissed claims as false claims that the eviction of hawkers from the Eldoret Central Business District is biased as alleged by some politicians. Chemno asked those behind the claims to provide their evidence and stop tarnishing reputation of county officials.

On Tuesday, Huruma Ward Representative Peter Chomba accused the county government of bias in exiting of hawkers from the CBD.

He alleged that they were being selectively evicted.
