Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association national chairman John Awiti has been asked to spearhead application for National Identification Cards (IDs) by students in secondary schools.
Awiti who is also the Principal of St Mary's School, Yala in Siaya County has been asked to ensure that students who attain the age of 18 years apply for IDs before clearing school.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, Kisumu City Residents Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada said that there was urgent need to sensitise the youth to register for IDs.
Audi noted that most Form Four leavers have attained the age of 18 and asked school heads to ensure that students past 18 years of age register for the crucial document.
"I want to ask John Awiti as the heads association boss to spearhead this campaign in secondary schools as this will go a long way in curbing the high number of youths without IDs," he said.
The residents' representative explained that with the important document, the youth will be able to apply for university intakes, jobs, among other things.
