Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has asked Mombasa residents not to blame Governor Hassan Joho’s administration for all their problems. The MP, who is in the race to unseat Joho, told residents that the fight against floods and other natural calamities is a collective responsibility. The lawmaker asked residents to put in place measures that can protect them from the effects of the floods instead of doing nothing and blaming the county government.“We are surprised that a small amount of rainfall can lead to major floods in Mombasa. Not everything must be done by the county government. We must all take responsibility where we live,” said Awiti, as quoted by The Star.On his part Suleiman Shahbal, the Jubilee governor hopeful faulted Joho’s administration for doing little to control flooding in the county. He pointed out that President Uhuru Kenyatta did his part in regards to the matter, adding that Joho has not done much over the same.“These floods and deaths are a result of poor physical planning and the poor drainage system. This is the reason why President Uhuru Kenyatta was here some few months ago to launch a storm water drainage system and some people talked bad about it,” said Shahbal.

During the launch of the Bamburi Storm Water Drainage System, Joho took a swipe at Uhuru, accusing him of riding on donor-funded projects, The Star reports.
