Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has officially announced his defection from Wiper Democratic Movement Party where he also served as the party's national treasurer.

Speaking on Tuesday, the legislator, who is also eyeing the Mombasa gubernatorial seat expressed fears that Wiper's primaries could not be credible, therefore prompting his exit from the party.

He further claimed that there was a wider plot by Wiper's top leadership to lock him out of the race.

“For the last four years I have served Wiper diligently and committed myself to it. I have spent a fortune. We have been waiting for a response on nominations but none has been forthcoming,” he said.

He promised to unveil his political vehicle soon ahead of the August polls.

"My committee is handling the matter. Let's be patient. So many parties have approached me wanting my candidacy," he noted.

Speculations are rife that he could vie on a Kadu Asili Party ticket.

He was set to face off with Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar in the Wiper primaries.
