Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has joined Vibrant Democratic Party on whose ticket he will vie for the Mombasa governorship on a week after ditching Wiper Party.
Awiti made the announcement on his new political vehicle on Tuesday in Mombasa, accusing his former Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of frustrating his gubernatorial ambitions.
"While in Wiper, I announced my intention to vie for governor only for another person to follow my trail just to frustrate the move," he noted.
The legislator claimed that it had become apparent to him that Mr Musyoka was backing Senator Hassan Omar, who is also eyeing the Mombasa governorship seat.
"Many talks were held with a view to finding a candidate. But it seems Wiper was not serious and was only keen on a cats and dogs game," he noted.
"Later, reports emerged that some people from the party had endorsed the other guy (Omar)," he added.
Awiti will face off with outspoken Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho (ODM), Hassan Omar (Wiper) and Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee Party) in the race for Mombasa's top seat.
