Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has expressed confidence in unseating Governor Hassan Joho in the August 8 general election.
Speaking on Sunday in Mombasa, Awiti urged the Wiper party leadership to let him fly the party's flag in the gubernatorial race, adding that he is best suited to deny Joho a second term in office. The lawmaker said he is in talks with Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, who has also declared interest in the seat, on how they can best marshal their troops together in a bid to win the seat come August.Though the rivalry between Awiti and Omar has threatened to handicap the party's effort to capture the coveted post, the legislator said they will not allow personal contests to cost them the seat.“I am ready to support Omar if he proves to be the right man to defeat Joho,” said Awiti. The MP said Joho's tenure has been disastrous, and accused the incumbent of failing to deliver on his pre-election pledges.
