The Vibrant Democratic Party has handed Nyali MP Hezron Awiti the party's ticket to contest for Mombasa governor in the forthcoming general polls. Awiti, who defected from Wiper Party a few weeks ago, has remained upbeat that he will trounce the incumbent, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in the next general election despite contesting on a little known party.Awiti said he defected from Wiper after party leader Kalonzo Musyoka favoured Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar by giving him direct nomination.Other aspirants who were handed direct tickets by VDP to contest for different seats include Florence Wabunda (Senator), VDP Secretary General Millicent Adhiambo (Nyali), Patrick Ngugi (Changamwe), Suleiman Ngala (Likoni) and Makau Sarah (Women Representative). Jubilee has fronted Suleiman Shahbal, a prominent businessman to contest for the seat. The contest for the top county seat is expected to be a race between Jubilee and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) if political analysts’ remarks are anything to go by.
