As the August 8 elections inche closer, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti who is eying the Mombasa governor seat has vowed to trounce the incumbent, Governor Hassan Joho.
Awiti is vying on a Vibrant Democratic Party having ditched Kalonzo's Wiper Party after a tussle with Senator Hassan Omar who is also in the race for the top county seat.Speaking in Mombasa on Friday where he outlined his plans for the county should he win the August contest, the Belgium-trained logistics expert said that he is the only 'horse' in the race as others are just 'donkeys'.The lawmaker who poked holes in Joho's administration said that the current leadership has failed to address the needs of the residents, something he wants to correct if elected. With the thorny land question in the county being part of his plans, Awiti vowed to reposes all the parcels owned by absentee landlords who have failed to develop them. While exuding confidence to stun his rivals and clinch the seat, Awiti who has vast business interests in the county said the locals are tired of Joho’s leadership and that they need change, adding that he is the best bet to bring that change.
