Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has given Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho a three-day ultimatum to explain why county askaris demolished kiosks at Buxton matatu stage.

The Nyali MP asked the county government to issue a statement regarding the demolition, failure to which he will lead anti-Joho protests in the county.

Awiti condemned the Joho-led administration for destroying the kiosks, saying small scale businesspersons in the area will not have a place to conduct their businesses following the demolitions.

He said the move was inhuman since the kiosks are the traders’ only source of income.

“We are giving the county chief officer Governor Hassan Joho three days to explain to the public who is behind this inhuman act of demolishing kiosks and other business structures of these helpless people,” said Awiti, after leading the traders in street protests.

The governor hopeful told the traders to rebuild the structures if the county government fails to offer them an alternative.
