Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has rubbished claims that the Wiper Democratic Party intends to endorse Senator Hassan Omar to vie for Mombasa governorship.
The MP termed the claims as mere propaganda aimed at bringing him down.
Awiti, who was addressing leaders drawn from different communities in Mombasa, said he holds a top party position and sits in the party executive committee, therefore no one should be cheated that he would be asked to step down in favour Omar.
“Those who have been saying that my colleague in Wiper Party will stop me from vying for the county top seat should know that Wiper is a democratic party which is guided by the voice of the majority,” said Mr Awiti.
Awiti urged his supporters to march on with the fight to ensure he clinches the seat.
The Nyali legislature said unlike others who solely depended on being endorsed by the party, he was depending on the electorate to deliver his victory.
“It is only the voters who will determine my candidature and finally the outcome of the next general elections,” said Awiti.
Awiti also refuted claims that Cord leader Raila Odinga will prevail upon him to drop his bid in favour of the incumbent, Governor Hassan Joho, saying that the Mombasa political space was open to anyone who feels free to contend.
