With clouds of uncertainty continuing to surround the Mombasa Wiper camp as the rivalry between Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti intensifies, a group of Wiper aspirants allied to the Senator have now endorsed his bid.
Speaking in Mombasa on Monday, a contingent led by three MCAs, three constituency chairmen and Women Representative aspirants asked the party to give Omar who is also the party Secretary General, a direct ticket."The NEB should give Hassan Omar direct nomination and we will deliver the Governor seat early in the morning," said Mjambere MCA Khamis Mwabashiri. On his part, Bamburi MCA Riziki Fundi asked Awiti to shelve his ambitions and instead throw his weight behind Omar.Concerned with the pace at which the party is moving to unlock the deadlock, the leaders said that the party's popularity is facing serious damage as there is no clear leadership in place to rally behind. The pronouncement by these leaders may prove to be the latest flashpoint that will further worsen the relationship between the two Wiper bigwigs in Mombasa.Already, Awiti has promised to 'make a major announcement' with Omar standing his ground not to play second fiddle to his rival.
