The MP said the move will be aimed at increasing the county's revenue.

Kongowea market, which sits in the heart of Nyali Constituency, is seen as one of the largest revenue collection centres in Mombasa County.

However, Mr Awiti has claimed that the current county government has neglected the market, allowing it to be the one of the dirtiest places in the county.

"The current state of the Kongowea market may lead to a serious disease outbreak in this region," said Awiti.

Awiti has been quoted on several occasions accusing the Mombasa County government under the leadership of Governor Hassan Joho of under performing, despite being given enough funds by the national government.
