Former Nyali MP Hezron Awiti who lost to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in the gubernatorial race during the August 8 polls has conceded defeat.
Awiti came a distant fourth in the race that was seen as a four-horse race after garnering 4,709 votes.Others who contested are Wiper's Hassan Omar who finished third and Jubilee's Suleiman Shahbal who came second. However, the two have vowed to challenge Joho's win.Speaking to The Star, Awiti who vied on a Vibrant Democratic Party ticket said he will be strategizing to craft a winning formula to springboard his political ambitions in 2022.The former MP who has vast business interests in Mombasa, added that he will go back to running his businesses.According to analysts, the 2022 elections may prove to be the right time for him to make a political comeback, since Joho will not be eligible for re-election.
