Nyali MP, Hezron Awiti has publically come out to declare his interest for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in 2017.
The MP made this announcement on Sunday.
"I am in the race for the benefit of traders and hawkers, 80 percent of Mombasa residents came to the county to do business but they have been suffering and frustrated," he said.
Awiti said that Cord leader, Raila Odinga should not endorse anyone but should instead let leaders get nominated for a fair chance of winning.
“Raila will be making a mistake if he chooses to pick anyone’s hands. This will have a domino effect,” Awiti said.
As it stands, there are now three candidates up for the gubernatorial seat come 2017. These are Awiti, Hassan Omar and Hassan Joho.
Awiti promised locals that if he won, he would ensure all those who had land grabbed from them would have them returned back to them.
He also promised that under his leadership., Mombasa County would be the cleanest with improved drainage systems.
