Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has challenged banks to give micro credit loans to women and youth.
Speaking on Friday at the Family Bank Corporate Dinner at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort, Awiti argued that supporting small business owners through such initiatives will help reduce crime and curb unemployment among the youth.
"I urge banks to target youth and women in their expansion by encouraging them to take affordable loans to enable them start up enterprises. This in one way will reduce poverty and curb rising crime rates," he said.
"Additionally, I urge banks to render their loans at affordable interest rates so that more people can access them and in return the bank will also reap a lot of benefits because of the increased number of people who will access the facility," he added.
