Mombasa governor hopeful Hezron Awiti is optimistic of flooring his main rival, Senator Hassan Omar, during the Wiper Party primaries.
Speaking in Changamwe on Sunday during a voter registration mobilization drive, the Nyali MP exuded confidence that he is the man to unseat the incumbent, Governor Hassan Joho.
He further refuted claims that he is planning to ditch the Kalonzo-led party amid fears that party officials might deny him the ticket in favour of Omar, who is the party's secretary general.
Awiti said he has made inroads in the county's grassroots and hopes to beat Omar and fly the party's flag.
"I think I am the best bet for Wiper to challenge the incumbent since I have penetrated the county. I will stick with Wiper to the nominations and I will easily beat Omar," said Awiti, as quoted by the Standard.
The legislator's statement brings to rest the rumours that have been going around regarding his political future, with his contest with Omar expected to be a tough one.
