Mombasa governor hopeful Hezron Awiti has vowed to trounce Governor Hassan Joho in the coming August general election.Addressing residents at Ziwa la Ng’ombe in Mombasa, Awiti said Joho and his other opponents are no match for him, adding that he will clinch the top county seat come August 8.Awiti, who decamped from Wiper to his newly formed Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP) in March, said he is well prepared to face off withJoho, Senator Hassan Omar and Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal.“We are a very young party but am assuring you that we will give our challengers a run for their money,” said Awiti. The Nyali MP said he opted to vie for governorship so that he can be in a position to solve the many economic and social problems facing residents in the county.“We all know that Governor Hassan Joho has failed in managing garbage within Mombasa despite promising us only 100 days to clear the mess when he got into power in 2013,” said Awiti. He said the cost of doing business in the county has become a night mare with many investors opting to invest in other Coastal counties and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.“I promise you my people, as I have shown you how I can reform Nyali Constituency, I want to change Mombasa,” he added.
