Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has criticised Mombasa residents for voting along party lines during the last general election.
Awiti said residents are to blame for making the wrong choice, instead of scrutinizing the candidates based on their track record.
The outspoken politician called upon residents to support a leader who will not only unite, but also come up with development programmes that will free the region from abject poverty.
Awiti, who has declared interest in the Mombasa gubernatorial race, said poor leadership is to blame for all the problems the county is currently facing.
“You have seen for yourselves what we have gone through since 2013 where tenders and job opportunities are given selectively,” he said, as quoted by Mediamax.
He assured residents in the county that he has what it takes to steer the county to the next level, adding that he needed their support to achieve his dream.
“We want to bring change in Mombasa, where everyone matters because this county is not a preserve of a few people who want to monopolise resources,” he said.
