The victims of fire tragedy that occurred at Ayany Estate on Monday night have found reprieve following donations from area leaders and well-wishers.
Kibera MP Ken Okoth is among those who came to the rescue of the victims by donating mattresses and blankets. The donations were presented on his behalf by CDF committee chairperson Leah Asego alongside Sikudhani Ajwang, chairman of education docket in the CDF committee.
“This is a personal donation sent by MP Ken Okoth to the victims. Saying personal means that we have not taken this from the CDF kitty as some people may think. The emergency funds we have are mainly for institutions such as schools, and health facilities among others,” said Asego as she addressed the gathering at the point of scene.
Each of the six families affected received a mattress and a blanket to start them off as they recover from the loss.
“We appreciate those who came to assist these families from the time the fire started up to this point. I would appeal to the residents and the well-wishers to continue helping them by donating basic necessities like food and clothing,” appealed Ajwang.
The victims expressed delight in the move by the leaders who have chipped in to rescue their situation.
"Personally I am very grateful for the contribution that our leaders have given. At least we will have something to lay our heads on," said Kevin Abwora, a victim of the fire.
The inferno started at around midnight on Monday consuming at least six houses. The exact cause of the fire is not known.
