Well, I bet I do not need to introduce Cheryl Kitonga this time, she has become the talk of the town and is just as popular as Student Organization of Nairobi University longest serving chair Babu Owino alias Paul Ogili Owino.
Babu came out loudly to defend Cheryl Kitonga, the lady whose name was exposed as having spent time with the late business tycoon Jacob Juma during his final hours before his assassination.
The revelation dubbed Kaburi la Wazi which aired on May 23 on KTN went viral when Ms Kitonga who was with Jacob Juma a few hours before his death was exposed for all to see.
She was mocked and some called her ‘gold digger’ for having relations with the late controversial businessman.
Babu Owino feels that the nature of Ms Kitonga and Mr Juma’s relationship does not necessarily have to be the subject of social discussion because the two were grown-ups and they had consent in whatever happened between them.
“Everybody does things according to how they plan. Cheryl and the late Jacob consented. Therefore, I see no problem with that. They were two grown-ups above 18 years old. They knew what they were doing. A person who consents to his or her heart, I don’t have any problem with that – so I wouldn’t condemn either,” Babu stated.
“When you look at some families, the age difference between the man and his partner is huge. So, it is about consent – if the arrangement is forceful, then it is criminal, but when the two parties agree to relate then it is right by all means.”
“The media and the public wrongly persecuted Cheryl; she should be left to lead her life,” added the SONU chairman.
The sentiments of Babu are in line with Caroline Mutuko’s who also faulted Mohammed Ali of Jicho Pevu for exposing Ms Kitonga and averting the focus of the public from the death of Juma.
Mutuko criticized Ali for exposing the girl unfairly while sealing the identities of others.
