Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has condemned the move by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to declare a ban on night travel by Public Service Vehicles (PSVs). Through a tweet on Tuesday, Babu said the ban on night travel on PSVs is a death trap and should be lifted as soon as possible as it would see more accidents happen. Owino argued that the ban will push drivers to over speed to cover most distances within shortest time hence increasing accident risks. "Night ban on PSV is a death trap that must be lifted ASAP! Majority of drivers are now over speeding to cover the most distance within the shortest time coupled with the increased number of buses on our roads during the day. Quick recovery to the 36 victims of Maanzoni accident," Babu tweetedThis follows after NTSA put a ban on night travel on the grounds that most accidents occur at night, recent of which caused 38 deaths along Migaa-Salgaa highway on Sunday morning. "Over the recent past, our records indicate that majority of crashes are occurring during the night and in order to review the effectiveness of the current measures in place to improve road safety, the authority in consultation with other relevant government agencies suspends night travels for all distance public service vehicles from December 31st,” a joint statement with the police traffic department read.Kenyans have now suggested that the NTSA be disbanded following the increased accident occurrences in the country
