The first time legislator was on Sunday evening released, after the intervention of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.

Owino was arrested for allegedly assaulting a parking attendant, a scene that was recorded in a video that has since gone viral.

Speaking after being released, the MP said he was arrested like a criminal and was treated like an Al-Shabaab member.

He further said he was arrested by 17 police officers, who created a scene in what could have been done in a more respectable manner.

“I am humbly requesting the police, please, I was not selected, I was elected. Have some minimal respect for me, the same way people had the respect to elect me to represent them in the assembly,” he said.

He added: “That drama was too much, it was unwarranted. The police should be professional, a member of parliament, just summon me at the police station, I will come, I will not run,”

Babu has been on the wrong side of the law many times before and was arrested last year for allegedly insulting the president.

His time as the SONU president was also marred with arrests, after leading demonstrations on numerous occasions.
