Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is the latest opposition politician to defend embattled Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu over incitement to violence allegations facing her.

Owino in a twit on Wednesday, said he stands with and supports  Governor Ngilu’s move to stop charcoal burning in Kitui.

The controversial MP criticized Kiambu politicians and residents attacking Ngilu over charcoal ban, alleging that they are out to intimidate and harass the governor.

“I strongly support and stand  with 'Mama' Ngilu on her move to stop deforestation in Kitui,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

The ODM MP condemned Limuru residents over Monday’s demonstrations demanding for Ngilu’s arrest and prosecution.

Owino said the opposition  will stand with the Kitui Governor, warning the government against attempts to intimidate her.

Governor Ngilu has been under criticism with a section Kiambu politicians and residents demanding for her arrest and prosecution over alleged incitement to violence.

The politicians allege that Ngilu incited residents to burn down vehicles  found ferrying charcoal in the county.

Appearing before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Monday, Ngilu denied the incitement to violence allegations.

She said that the charcoal and sand harvesting ban will remain in force.
