Some leaders of public and private universities have urged Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to stop meddling in students affairs and instead concentrate on serving his constituents.
Speaking after holding a consultative meeting aimed at creating a roadmap for a sober universities’ leadership at Multi Media University, they said politicisation of students affairs is hurting them.
Multi-Media University president Robin Boit said universities leadership has suffered for a long time because of masqueraders and brokers who take advantage of students to enrich themselves.
“Time has come for us to streamline our representation by having sober and formidable leaders who care about comrades welfare,” said Boit.
He asked Owino to keep off Kenya University Students Union (Kusu) leadership to allow students chat their own path.
“We wish to call upon former students who continue to clinch onto university leadership positions to step aside immediately,” added Boit.
His sentiments were echoed by Janet Mwangi from the Technical University of Kenya who said university students leadership was in a crisis.
