Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's case got thicker after the prosecution intensified their claims of voter bribery and violence against him.
The court was told that electoral malpractises executed by Owino prevented ANC aspirant Joshua Obiende from voting in the August 8 elections.
The court was told that Obiende was protesting against purported bribery of Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials.
While testifying before High Court judge Joseph Sergon, Embakasi East Returning Officer Nicholas Butuk told the court that he only learnt of Obiende's plight when the Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI) officers paid him a visit while investigating the alleged assault by Owino.
“I came to know about him (Obiende) not voting when investigation officers came to my office. The DCI officers wanted to know whether he voted. I went to the register which showed that his name was not marked,” Butuk testified.
Lawyer Kiragu Kimani representing Owino's Jubilee rival Francis Mureithi (who is challenging Babu's win) played a video clip showing Obiende complaining that the electoral officials had been bribed with Sh2 million.
The video also showed Obiende oozing blood from a slight cut in his forehead.
