Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has thanked Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja for securing his release.

Owino was released from the Parklands Police Station on Sunday afternoon after the intervention of Senator Sakaja.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP was arrested on Friday over accusations of assaulting a parking attendant at an entertainment joint in Westlands, Nairobi on January 11.

Speaking outside the police station, Owino said, “I want to thank Senator Sakaja for securing my release, I am grateful and may God bless you.”

Sakaja condemned the opposition MP’s arrest and asked the police to demonstrate professionalism in their work.

“No political leader should be arrested unlawfully because of his political party be it NASA or Jubilee. This is a petty offense. I don’t agree with it and I will stand for him. I am staying here until Babu is released,” said Sakaja.

Sakaja made an undertaking of Sh104,000 and a personal surety to produce Owino in court on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 8 am.

MPs Junet Mohamed, Anthony Oluoch, George Aladwa, Gladys Wanga and former Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra visited the station on Sunday and condemned his detention.
