In a tweet, the vocal politician noted that celebrating women should not just be about sending them nice quotes and poems but also helping in improving their living standards.

"Women don't need to be "empowered" and "celebrated" through quotes, posts and poems. How about we invest in them, hire them and most importantly pay them," he posted.

Meanwhile, women worldwide are today celebrating the International Women's Day(IWD) which is used to appreciate their achievement throughout history and across nations.

It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women's Rights and International Peace.

The first observance of a Women's Day was held on February 28, 1909 in New York but was later changed to March 8.
