It is said that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Residents of Nyamarutu estate bore witness to this in the evening hours of Tuesday. It was like watching a soap opera only there was a lot less love and a lot more hatred, fighting and exchange of heavy censored words.
The scorned woman, Njeri, not her real name, walked in on her baby daddy, Joshua (not his real name) as he was in the process of making love to another woman, Ciru, again not her real name. All hell broke loose as the two women tore at each other. This was no cat fight. It was one that wrestling enthusiasts would enjoy. Njeri got the better of Ciru and the latter was forced to flee half naked.
The angry Njeri then turned to Joshua letting him taste her wrath. By this time a crowd had gathered outside the residence where all the action was happening. Nothing anyone said or did managed to calm them down.
“Joshua destroyed my life by making me pregnant then he has the nerves to sleep around?” An angry Njeri could be heard saying.
“I didn’t know he had a baby. And we are only friends, classmates even.” Ciru tried to plead her case but Njeri heard none of it as she cursed and gave her round two of heavy punches and kicks. Things escalated when Njeri’s sister joined in.
“Njeri was a bright girl who had a bright future ahead of her. Her dreams were cut short when Joshua got her pregnant at form three and she was forced to drop out. Joshua’s life didn’t change much as he still goes to school. What’s more he doesn’t provide as much as 20 bob for pampers.”
The drama came to a close when Joshua’s mum came to talk sense to Njeri. Ciru picked her clothes and made a run for it while dressing.
It is interesting to note that all the vertices of this love triangle are teenagers who rushed life. Sadly, they aren’t the only ones in this residence. It has become a tradition of this community for school kids to become parents. The pressure of parenting becomes too much for them hence the occurrence of such incidences.
Many girls like Njeri have now been reduced to just motherhood. Their big dreams have been shuttered and society is doing nothing about it. They could well be our younger sisters and it is upon us to make sure that they don’t go to waste. I am calling upon the area MCA, Mr. Masharia and the area MP, Mr. Gikaria to intervene and see to it that Njeri and the likes of her go back to school.
