A Court in Kisumu has pushed the inquest to find the killers of baby Samantha Pendo to February, next month.
Kisumu Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo issued the orders on Monday for the case to be mentioned on February 16.
Baby Pendo died in August 2017 after she was reportedly clobbered on the head by police officers in her parents’ house.
Former Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko in December 2017 had directed the National Police Service to take disciplinary action against its top leadership in the county after investigations by the police failed to point to the culprits.
IPOA had recommended disciplinary action against former Kisumu County Police Commander Titus Yoma, Kisumu East OCPD Mutune Maweu, Central OCS John Thiringi and Kisumu West OCS and DAPC Benjamin Kosgei over their roles in the command through which the death occurred.
The officers were being accused of breaking into the house of Mr Joseph Abanja and his wife Ms Lencer Achieng in Nyalenda Slums and beat the baby who died three days later while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
The officers were quelling chaos that rocked Kisumu after President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of the August 8, 2017 presidential election.
Twenty one people including the parents of the baby are expected to testify in the case seeking to establish the killers of baby Pendo.
