The DP launched the auction at Kamagut, his rural home and made it official that it will be held annually reminding farmers to rear more chicken to benefit from the event.

The every-year event will he steered by Gertrude Kurgat.

During the first auction, over 5,000 chicken were sold at a cost of Sh1,200 each.

"We encourage small-scale business people, including poultry farmers to tap into modern rearing methods such as quality feeds, construction of permanent brooder pens, improved storage facilities and value addition," the former Eldoret North MP said during the event also attended by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi among other top political leaders in the North Rift.

He said the agri-business has the potential of making millions of shillings but "Kenyans must themselves see the importance of engaging in modernized agricultural techniques".

The DP took time to sample out chicken which he bought himself. He said he would always be at the forefront promoting the business interest of the common Kenyan.

Ruto noted that he understands the challenges low-scale chicken farmers go through because he was at one time at the same position.

He said the auction will be rolled out to other areas in Uasin Gishu.

When he was still 'hustling', the DP used to sell chicken at the roadside of Kamagut area which was his source of income.
