The Netherlands Bacon Factories Co-operative in association with food processing companies is set to establish a bacon factory in Bahati.
The new factory seeks add value to local livestock farmers produce and expand export sector in the county.
“This initiative is very much welcome. Our role as a ministry is to work hand in hand with investors who want to improve the lives of our people through playing a leading role in the establishment of industrial parks,’’Nakuru county minister of trade and industry Edith Kimani said.
Kimani added that the Netherlands ministry of industrialization has been keen on initiating cooperation in industrial development between the county government and Netherlands ever since Governor Kinuthia Mbugua led a delegation to the country a year ago.
Kimani added that the factory would be located in Bahati to directly benefit local pig farmers in the area among other regions of the county and also to offer employment opportunities to the local youth.
The foreign investments manager of the company Sevaldsen Strandskov said that Netherlands is a world leader in bacon industry, and that the product exports highly depended on the cooperative’s ability to nurture international relations through foreign investments.
“This project will not only support local industry and livestock growth but will also enhance relations between the Netherlands and Kenya,” Strandskov said.
