Former Labour Cabinet Secretary and Kilifi gubernatorial hopeful Kazungu Kambi has now claimed that frosty relationship between governor Amason Kingi and President Uhuru Kenyatta may have contributed to the underdevelopment of the county.

“You cannot work in isolation and expect to develop at the same rate as other counties working with the national government. You cannot abuse the President who is elected by millions of Kenyans,” he said.

“If Uhuru will be President I will work with him. If it is Raila who will be President, I will work with him," he added.

Speaking over the weekend when he launched his gubernatorial bid, Kambi pledged to improve the living standards of Kilifi residents, with a key focus on food security, education and infrastructure.

“Your work will be to give birth. Mine will be to educate your children,” he noted.

Kambi looks to unseat governor Kingi on a Kadu-Asili Party ticket.

Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungaro is also eyeing the county top seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
