The body which was badly decomposed was discovered by young boys who were playing football near the said pit after they noticed bad smell coming from it.

According to the area Sub-Chief John Karanja, the deceased was a known criminal and his murder may have been as a result of a deal gone sour.

"The man disappeared a week ago according to his family though they never reported his disappearance to the police. They were able to identify him by the clothes he was wearing," said Karanja.

He noted that crime in the slum has lately been on the rise following the vandalising of the floodlights that light up the area at night.

"Residents have now been left at the mercy of thugs when darkness come. All the major 'mulika mwizi' that light the slum at night have been vandalised," he added.

The chief further attributed the surge in crime in the area to what he termed as 'brotherhood' among residents saying that they rarely report criminals in their midst.
