Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has asked Nakuru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to take their oversight roles seriously.
Addressing the media at Bahati on Sunday, the MP accused county MCAs of failing to keep the county government in check.
He observed that failure to question and seek clarifications from the county government has given it freedom to make decisions without consultations as required by the law.
“I want to ask Nakuru MCAs to take their oversight roles seriously and ensure the county government is accountable to its activities,” said Ngunjiri.
The Bahati legislator said that oversight, will make the county government to deliver.
The MP raised concerns saying that a section of county MCAs have been turned into sycophants.
He said the county government will not realise its development goals if MCAs are not active on matters of policy and legislation.
“It is unfortunate that some of Ward Representatives have been turned into political sycophants thus neglecting their roles as lawmakers at the county level,” said Ngunjiri.
Ngunjiri also asked MCAs to represent the people at grass root and make sure that they get services.
Ngunjiri said that it is the responsibility of elected or nominated leaders to spearhead development of their people and areas of representation.
